Fluorosilicone: The Key Applications of Sealing Guardians in the Aerospace and Automotive Industries 2.0

2. Automotive Industry: A Dual Upgrade in High Performance and Long Life
As vehicles evolve towards higher efficiency, lower emissions, and greater intelligence, the requirements for sealing materials in powertrain, fuel injection, and new energy components are becoming increasingly stringent:
Powertrain and Fuel Systems: Fluorosilicone is used in components directly exposed to oil, gasoline, and additives, such as the engine crankshaft rear oil seal, fuel pump seal, and cylinder head gasket, to withstand long-term corrosion and significantly reduce the risk of swelling and leakage. A leading automaker, after adopting fluorosilicone in turbocharger seals, achieved zero seal failure rates after endurance testing at 220°C and 150,000 kilometers.
New Energy and Transmission Systems: Fluorosilicone is the preferred choice for electric vehicle battery pack seals, which require resistance to electrolyte corrosion, vibration, and high and low temperature (-40°C to 150°C). Transmission oil circuit seals and CVT rubber components require resistance to shear deformation and chemical attack. Its flexibility and aging resistance significantly extend component life. High-end vehicle design: Fluorosilicone is used in sunroof/door/window seals and high-end interior trims, offering low volatility, UV resistance, and a high-quality surface finish, meeting the dual demands of comfort and reliability for luxury vehicles.
3. Application Advantages and Cost-Affordability
Although fluorosilicone is significantly more expensive than ordinary rubber, its irreplaceable performance makes it a must-have in high-end applications: its fuel resistance far exceeds that of nitrile rubber, its low-temperature flexibility surpasses that of fluororubber, and its chemical resistance surpasses that of natural rubber. This is particularly true in applications such as aviation fuel tanks and new energy battery packs, where the maintenance costs and safety hazards associated with leakage far outweigh the material premium.
With the lightweighting of aerospace and the increasing adoption of new energy vehicles, demand for fluorosilicone in low-temperature seals, high-purity fuel systems, and smart sensor protection will continue to grow, driving process optimization and large-scale production to gradually reduce cost bottlenecks.
