Dimethyl silicone oil - The "lubrication master" in industry and daily life

Hits: 349 img

Dimethylsilicone oil, chemically known as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is a linear polymer with silicon-oxygen bonds as the main chain and methyl groups as the side chains. It is colorless and odorless, and possesses excellent thermal stability, chemical inertness, and extremely low surface tension. These properties make it an indispensable "lubrication master" in numerous fields.
In industrial production, dimethylsilicone oil is an efficient defoamer. Whether it is in the biological reactions of fermentation tanks or the intense stirring in sewage treatment ponds, a small amount of silicone oil dropped in can quickly disrupt the stability of foam and prevent overflow accidents. Moreover, it is also widely used as a release agent, helping products easily come off the molds during rubber and plastic molding processes and maintaining a smooth surface.
In daily life, dimethylsilicone oil is also everywhere. It is a key component in high-end skin care products and shampoos, forming a breathable protective film on the surface of the skin and hair, providing a silky touch and locking in moisture. In the textile industry, it acts as a softener, making clothes more fluffy and comfortable. Even in non-stick pot coatings and car polishing waxes, it can be found.
Although dimethylsilicone oil has excellent performance, its difficulty in biodegradation has also raised environmental concerns. Currently, scientists are working on developing biodegradable modified silicone oils to balance performance and ecological safety. As a magical synthetic material, dimethylsilicone oil is continuously promoting the improvement of modern industrial and living quality.
