Functionalized Applications of Poly(methylhydrosiloxane) in Cosmetics

Poly methyl silsesquioxane (PMMS) has become an important raw material in the cosmetics industry due to its "smooth texture" and "oil-control matte" properties. Its spherical structure gives the formula a unique skin feel: the sliding of the particles reduces friction, making products such as foundation and eyeshadow have a velvety spreadability; at the same time, the 15-micron particle size design can fill skin textures and achieve an optical softening effect, covering fine lines and pores.
In the field of oil control, PMMS stands out particularly. Its surface methyl groups have strong hydrophobicity, which can quickly absorb sebum and keep the skin dry. Experimental data shows that adding 5% PMMS to the foundation lotion can extend the hold time by 40% and reduce the rate of smudging by 65%. Moreover, as a pigment dispersant, PMMS, through its organic silicon framework and electrostatic interaction with the surface of inorganic pigments, enables the color powder to be uniformly dispersed, reducing the amount by 15% while enhancing the color saturation. For example, an international brand lipstick achieved a breakthrough formula of "high color accuracy + zero stickiness" by adding PMMS.
In terms of safety, PMMS has passed skin irritation tests and eye irritation tests, and has been confirmed as a low-allergy raw material. It has strong chemical stability and does not decompose within the pH range of 3 to 10. It is compatible with various active ingredients. Currently, PMMS has been widely used in sunscreen products, men's skincare series, etc., becoming the technical benchmark for "matte makeup effect" and "long-lasting hold-up makeup", and promoting the upgrade of cosmetics to "effect + experience" in two dimensions.
