The difference between fluorosilicone oil and dimethyl silicone oil

There are significant differences in the usage between fluorosilicone oil and dimethyl silicone oil, mainly manifested in key areas such as chemical resistance, lubrication performance, operating temperature range, and cost-effectiveness. 
Chemical resistance: By introducing trifluoropropyl groups, fluorosilicone oil significantly enhances its oil resistance, solvent resistance, and chemical stability, enabling stable operation in harsh chemical environments such as strong acids, strong bases, and fuels. Dimethyl silicone oil, although having basic chemical resistance, is prone to degradation in highly corrosive media and its chemical resistance is significantly weaker than that of fluorosilicone oil.
Lubrication performance: In extreme pressure conditions, fluorosilicone oil forms a molecular film with a low friction coefficient, reducing the friction coefficient by more than 30% compared to dimethyl silicone oil, and has better wear resistance under heavy loads. Dimethyl silicone oil is suitable for light-load lubrication scenarios, but its performance is limited under high-load or extreme friction conditions.
Operating temperature range: Fluorosilicone oil can operate stably within a wide temperature range of -40°C to 240°C, and the evaporation loss at 200°C is less than 5%, making it suitable for extreme temperature environments. The operating temperature range of dimethyl silicone oil is -50°C to 250°C, but the evaporation loss is greater at high temperatures, with a 30-day evaporation amount of less than 2% at 150°C. Its long-term high-temperature performance is weaker than that of fluorosilicone oil.
Cost-effectiveness: Due to its complex synthesis process, fluorosilicone oil is expensive and has lower economic efficiency for large-scale use. Dimethyl silicone oil is cost-effective and has a mature industrial production system, offering a cost advantage in routine applications.
