Cure Additives
In addition to RTV and liquid cure systems, silicone rubbers are commonly cured using peroxides such as benzoyl peroxide, 2,4-dichlorobenzoyl, t-butyl perbenzoate, and dicumyl peroxide. Alkyl hydroperoxides and dialkyl peroxides have also been used successfully with vinyl-containing silicones.
Hydrosilylation or hydrosilylation is an alternative cure method for vinyl-containing siloxanes and utilizes a hydrosilane material and a platinum-containing compound as a catalyst. It is a two-part process that requires mixing two different components and the resulting material has a limited shelf life. Curing does not produce volatiles and heat-cured conventional silicones with high tear strength can be cured in this manner.
